The equipment of the pilot's compartment kept changing during P-51D production, which is why panels for the individual blocks exist separately – it pays to reach for the one that matches your aircraft.
Late Mustangs escorted the bomber formations to the end of the war in Europe, and the type then served for a long time afterward, from the Korean conflict to the air forces of smaller nations. Aircraft of the late blocks had a fully standardized dorsal fin fillet and extended options for external stores; modernized gunsight and radio equipment gradually appeared in the cockpit. Work around it with a brush carrying a minimum of paint, so that nothing gets splashed. If you close the canopy, keep it clear – the detail will be judged right through it.
