This set from the PRINT line by the Czech maker Eduard uses precise 3D printing to create the Hamilton Standard propeller in the version without cuffs at the roots of the blades. The printing technology renders the leading edges and the twist of the blades more crisply than ordinary molding can manage, and so gives a P-51D model in 1:72 scale the correct silhouette of the nose. The package follows on from the other accessories that Eduard is issuing for the Mustang in this scale at the same time.
The North American P-51D Mustang with the Packard V-1650 Merlin engine turned a four-blade Hamilton Standard propeller. Some of the machines flew with blades fitted with cuffs at the roots, while on others the cuffs were not used, so the uncuffed version is typical of a number of Mustangs of the later batches and of postwar service. The correct variant for a particular machine is always confirmed by a period photograph, which is what you tune the build to.
Separate the parts from the print supports with a sharp blade and smooth the small marks away with the finest abrasive paper. Spray the propeller blades in black with a satin sheen, the tips in yellow according to the real aircraft and the spinner in the colors of the particular unit. A drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin is enough to join it.
