The strike Tornado became famous for its ability to fly to a target at night and in bad weather just above the terrain, which was made possible by terrain-following radar linked to automatic control. The crew consisted of a pilot in front and a navigator at the rear, whose station was literally packed with screens; after later modifications of the equipment its form changed again. The set is aimed at precisely this newer configuration and captures it at the moment when everything is running. The set is intended for Italeri and Monogram kits.
The displays have their picture drawn out and the instrument panels of both stations are finished including the labels, the warning lights and the side panels. The layered full-color print creates relief, thanks to which the cockpit looks deep even under a closed canopy, and with an open canopy it will stand up to a close look as well.
It is applied by the wet method. The area is leveled and painted dark in advance, the pieces are left to release in clean lukewarm water and are then transferred with tweezers to their place, where they are fine-tuned with a moistened brush. It is advisable to work in sections and to let the individual items dry between steps.
An interior packed with displays is typical of the Tornado and on a model it represents one of the few spaces where a great deal of detail can be shown on a small area. Switched-on screens moreover have the advantage of breaking up a dark area with fields of color and catching the eye sooner than anything else in the cockpit. With dioramas showing a scene from an airfield in operation it is the logical choice.
The consignment holds a single cockpit print without further parts.
