Percival P.50 Sea Prince C Mk.1 1:72: Valom has covered the Royal Navy communications twin of the early 1950s in a short-run kit, the markings of WF138 included.
Responsibility details are not available.
This chubby high-wing machine of the Royal Navy is one of the types the mainstream manufacturers never got around to, and Valom has filled that gap with a short-run kit in 1:72. The decal sheet covers the machines WF137 and WF138, the first communications Sea Princes delivered to the Royal Navy. Its compact dimensions make the model a pleasant weekend project with the stamp of a genuine rarity.
The Percival Prince first flew in 1948 as a light transport high-wing aircraft with nosewheel landing gear and a pair of Alvis Leonides nine-cylinder radials. From 1950 the naval Sea Prince C Mk.1 handled courier and staff flights between the bases of the Fleet Air Arm; the first communications examples were followed later by a more numerous training offshoot with a lengthened nose housing a radar, on which anti-submarine warfare operators were schooled.
Short-run parts call for the mating surfaces to be leveled and for patience in seating the engine nacelles. The high-set wing makes access to the inside easier, so paint the interior before the fuselage is closed. The naval scheme looks best with a semi-matte finish, a discreet picking out of the control surfaces and a touch of gloss on the antenna fairings.
The product is a kit in an unassembled state with no paint applied; the glue is not included.
