A diorama accessory of laser-cut wood in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It is not a vehicle model — it is a scenery element from which, once assembled and painted, you build a picket fence, that is a fence of vertical slats spaced with gaps. Unlike solid fencing you can see through it, so it suits anywhere you do not want to hide the view of a model behind the fence. The parts are cut from thin wood in a natural shade with the grain preserved.
The heavier version has more robust pickets, which creates a firm, solidly built fence in a scene. It reads more as the permanent fencing of a farmstead, a holding or a garden than as a light decorative barrier. The lighter version of the same range is more delicate and suits small front gardens and lighter structures. The choice between them is mainly a question of how a scene is to come across and how prominent the fence should be in the overall composition.
Break the pickets carefully out of the sheet and sand away the marks left by cutting. Use PVA wood glue, and thin cyanoacrylate on the small joints. Paint by toning: thinned acrylics, a wood stain or a glaze preserve the wood grain, whereas an opaque coat smooths it away. It is more realistic to leave the pickets unevenly faded — darken or lighten a few of them slightly. The gaps between the pickets are see-through, so paint the back just as carefully. Work sparingly with water so that the thin wood does not warp, and let the finished fence dry weighted down on a flat surface.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a laser-cut wooden part. The glue, the paints and any further material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
