A plastic kit of the Pantsir-S1 self-propelled anti-aircraft system, designated SA-22 Greyhound in Western reporting names, in 1:72 scale. The model has a striking silhouette with a tall chassis, a traversing superstructure and radar antennas, so in a display case it comes across differently from ordinary tanks and goes well alongside models of modern armored vehicles.
The Pantsir-S1 is a short-range anti-aircraft system combining two kinds of armament on one carrier. The superstructure holds guided anti-aircraft missiles and rapid-fire 30 mm cannons, which makes it possible to cover various ranges with no need for a second vehicle. The superstructure is backed up by search and tracking radar and by electro-optical equipment. The system is carried on a wheeled chassis, thanks to which it moves under its own power.
Finish the chassis and the wheel suspension before you close the hull up, because you will not reach them later. Cut the thin antennas and the parts of the radar off carefully with nippers and clean them up with a fine file, because in this scale they break easily. Use a thin modeling cement for plastic, which wicks into the seams by capillary action, and for the small accessories cyanoacrylate glue suits. Apply a primer before painting. Spray the base shade with an airbrush and shade above all under the superstructure and around the wheels. Lay a gloss varnish compatible with the paint you have used under the decals and matte the surface down once it has dried. Keep the weathering restrained; with a vehicle that has large smooth areas a fine wash into the engraved lines and a light dust of pigment on the lower parts are enough.
