Takom 1:72 Sänger-Bredt Silbervogel is an injection-molded plastic model of the German suborbital bomber project — a machine that never came into being and stayed on paper.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Takom. The model captures the Silbervogel (silver bird) — a paper project that was never built for a German rocket-powered suborbital bomber of the end of the 1930s and of the 1940s. It was not a production or even a prototype machine but a theoretical concept. The box offers two different versions of the nose and the cockpit (for example a fully glazed two-seat one and a single-seat one with a bubble canopy); paints, glue and accessories are not included.
The Silbervogel was designed by the engineers Eugen Sänger and Irene Bredt as a rocket-powered antipodal bomber which was to glide along the edge of the atmosphere over great distances. The project appeared in connection with the so-called Amerika Bomber program. It remained purely on the drawing board, however — it was never built or flown and a number of its parameters were beyond the technical possibilities of the time. It is therefore an interesting what-if subject, not a machine that was really put into service.
Decide in advance on the version of the nose and the cockpit. The glazing of the cockpit comes out well with masking templates. Glue the plastic with thin cement and apply a primer before the airbrush. Because it is a concept, you have a free hand in a fictional what-if finish; glossy metallic and futuristic surfaces will appreciate a smooth base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
