Eduard 1:72 Spitfire Mk.V wheel set is an accessory that replaces the plastic landing gear wheels with detailed castings carrying a tire tread pattern and a flat spot at the contact patch. It is not an aircraft model.
Responsibility details are not available.
An add-on set by Eduard for replacing the plastic landing gear wheels on a Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V kit in 1:72 scale. The set covers the main wheels and the tailwheel and is built as a direct replacement for the parts from the kit. This is not an aircraft model but a detail accessory for one, so the base kit has to be on hand.
In 1:72 the wheels are one of the few places where the difference shows at first glance even on a small model. Plastic wheels are molded from two halves, so they carry a parting line around the circumference that you have to sand away, and the tread pattern often goes with it. A cast replacement wheel is in one piece, so the tread pattern and the lettering on the hub stay clean. The wheels in this set also carry a flat spot at the contact patch that matches a tire loaded by the weight of a parked aircraft, so the model does not look as though it were hovering above its base. On the Spitfire in particular, which stood on a narrow track, this detail is clearly visible.
For modelers building the Spitfire Mk.V in 1:72 who want detail in the model that is more usual in larger scales. The difficulty is low, as it is a matter of swapping a few parts, but it does assume work with super glue and fine sanding.
An accessory, not a model. The base kit, glue, paints and any other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
