The package concentrates on machines operated by the Royal Australian Air Force, that is aircraft working in a tropical environment, where they differed from the European machines in both service modifications and finish.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V was the most numerously built of the early Spitfire variants. The letter c in the designation refers to the so-called universal wing, which allowed a varying mix of gun armament according to the needs of the unit, and it is the main external distinguishing feature against the earlier versions. Machines working in the tropics received modifications against dust, above all filters on the air intake, which markedly change the shape of the lower part of the nose. The Royal Australian Air Force operated the Spitfire Mk.Vc in the southwest Pacific area.
Finish and paint the cockpit before joining the fuselage halves; in 1:72 scale access afterwards is practically impossible. Mask the glazing with strips of tape cut to the frames, or use ready-made masks. Before you start spraying, check how the wing seats against the fuselage and fill any gap with a thin plastic strip. Tropical machines will take more pronounced weathering: dust on the lower surface, worn edges around the hatches and a faded upper surface. Apply the decals onto a gloss coat and finally even the surface out with a matte one.
