A masking set for a MiG-17F Fresco C model in 1:48 scale is cut from kabuki type tape and offers the BASIC coverage.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is an accessory for a model, not the model itself. It contains pre-cut masks made of kabuki type paper masking tape for a model of the MiG-17F fighter in 1:48 scale, and it can be used for its license-built versions too. The BASIC designation marks the coverage of the sheet at New Ware, that is the smallest of the grades offered, while ADVANCED and EXPERT cover a larger number of elements.
Japanese paper masking tape holds a crisp edge, a fine shape can be cut from it without fraying, and at the same time it has low tack, so it leaves no adhesive residue on the model when lifted off. Compared with ordinary paper tape it shapes better around a curve and lifts off an edge less often. That is why masks are cut from it even for very small areas.
The MiG-17 was a Soviet subsonic fighter derived from the earlier MiG-15, given a new wing with greater sweep and a modified fuselage. The MiG-17F version was fitted with an afterburning engine and became the most widespread variant of the type. Besides Soviet production the aircraft was also built under license, in Poland as the Lim and in China as the J-5, and it served in dozens of countries around the world.
Wash and degrease the clear parts, and only then settle the mask on dry and press it down with a soft wooden stick from the center toward the edges. Fill in smaller openings and the areas around the mask with strips of tape or with masking fluid. Spray the interior shade of the frames first, then the base. With the metallic or glossy finish typical of this type, take care to get a perfectly smooth surface, because a metallic coat brings out every unevenness under the edge of the mask.
An accessory for a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
