An injection-molded plastic kit of the large German ocean-going Type IX-A submarine in 1:350 scale from Hobby Boss. The model can be built as a full-hull version on a stand or as a waterline model cut at the waterline. In the box you will find photo-etched parts, mainly for the conning tower, the railings and the fine antennas, together with a stand and a nameplate.
Type IX was a German long-range submarine intended for independent operations far out in the Atlantic. The IX-A version formed the starting point of the whole family: diesel-electric propulsion, heavy torpedo armament and great range allowed patrols off distant shores. It was from the IX-A that the later, even longer-ranged IX-B and IX-C variants were derived.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife and join them with liquid cement for plastic. Decide in advance whether you are building a full hull or a waterline model and prepare the stand or a base with a water surface accordingly. Glue the photo-etched railings and antennas with super glue. Apply a primer before painting; the gray finish of the hull and the darker deck can both be handled with an airbrush. Bringing out the hatches and the seams with a dark wash will give the model depth.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
