The set brings two sheets of pre-cut stencils with which the sharply broken multitone finish of the Russian fifth-generation prototype is carried onto a model. The stencils run the boundaries of the color fields over the whole airframe and the lifting surfaces, so the transitions between the shades get just as hard an edge as on the real machine. The material is a thin self-adhesive film, which can be used a second time with careful removal.
The T-50 was the flying demonstrator of the PAK-FA program, from which the production Su-57 emerged. The first prototype flew in 2010 and the test machines wore a striking geometric scheme put together from gray fields. The pattern was meant to break up the outline of the fuselage when seen from above and became the recognition feature of this development stage. The production aircraft were later given a differently drawn finish, so the prototype appearance is the one most in demand among modelers.
A large-area mask calls for a different approach from small stencils for glazing. First spray the lightest tone and let it cure thoroughly, and only then lay the individual parts and seat them with pressure across the rivet lines and the panel seams as well. Apply the further shades in thin layers, so that no noticeable step arises at the edge. The film is semi-transparent, so you can check the position of a part before pressing it down. Remove it before the finish has fully cured.
The stencils are sold on their own; paints and the model itself do not belong in the package.
