Master 1:72 Su-27/Su-30 (Flanker) – Turned Brass Pitot Tube

This accessory from the Polish manufacturer Master replaces the plastic pitot tube on models of the Su-27 and Su-30 in 1:72 scale. The part is turned from brass: it has thin walls, a sharp, straight tip, and is far sturdier than the plastic molding. The manufacturer states the set is suitable for Flanker models in this scale. This is not a kit — the aircraft model is not included in the package.

The real subject

The Su-27 is a Russian twin-engine heavy fighter built to win air superiority, known for its long range and remarkable agility. The Su-30 is its two-seat multirole variant, also capable of ground-attack missions. The long pitot tube at the tip of the nose is a defining feature of the Flanker's silhouette — which is exactly why its shape is so noticeable on a model.

Use and fitting

• Cut off the plastic tube from the kit at its base and true up the surface.
• Drill a hole of matching diameter into the remaining plastic — work from a thinner bit to a thicker one.
• Dry-fit the brass part and glue it with cyanoacrylate (super glue).
• Before painting, degrease the metal and prime it with a primer.
• Fit the part at the very end of the build — it is thin and gets in the way while handling the model.

Who the accessory is for

For modelers bothered that the plastic tube from the kit is, due to the mold, thick, often warped, and snaps off at the first clumsy handling. The brass replacement is thin, straight, precise, and survives even a trip to a show.
