A resin set of wheels for a model of the Soviet fighter-bomber with a variable-geometry wing, in the Su-17M3 and the export Su-22M4 versions, in 1:72 scale. The castings replace the wheels from the plastic kit and give the landing gear a sharper tread pattern and sharper detail on the rim. This is not an aircraft kit but an accessory for a kit you buy separately.
The Su-17 grew out of the earlier Su-7 by getting pivoting outer wing panels, and it gained markedly better takeoff and landing qualities in the process. In Western code names the whole family is called Fitter. The export versions carried the names Su-20 and Su-22 and spread to many countries. The Su-22M4 has a particular significance of its own: these machines were operated by the Czechoslovak Air Force and after it by the armed forces of the independent Czech Republic, so Czech color schemes and period photographs of them are well documented.
Wash the castings with warm soapy water and cut the casting blocks off with a saw. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; the kind for plastic will not hold on it. Separate the rim from the tire by masking, best of all with a circular template. Because these machines often stood on concrete surfaces as well as on grass airfields, the weathering can go either way: fine dust, or an earthy pigment rubbed into the tread. Level the flattened patches with the ground so that the model does not stand at an angle.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
