1:72 T-34 Halved WAFER Tracks

Tracks for the T-34, halved waffle pattern, 1:72 scale

The set contains replacement tracks for a model of the T-34 medium tank in 1:72 scale, specifically in the halved variant of the so-called waffle pattern. It is not a kit of the tank but an accessory that replaces the tracks supplied in the box. The brand also makes the basic waffle type and further patterns in the same scale, so before buying compare the pattern of the track with the subject you are building.

The real subject and the track pattern

The T-34 went through a whole range of forms during production, and its tracks changed as well. The individual factories used different link patterns and modelers tell them apart by the relief of the running surface; the waffle pattern is one of the best known. The halved variant is a version of it and differs in the division of the link. Because the track is markedly visible on a model of a tank, choosing the right pattern is among the details that decide the credibility of a build. You can best check the pattern against a period photograph of the machine you are building, because one type of tank goes with several possibilities.

Use and tips

• Check that the pitch of the teeth and the width of the track suit the running gear of your kit
• Assemble and clean up the running gear before you fit the track
• Paint the tracks separately from the hull and fit them after the base coat
• Lightly polish the running surface once finished, as the contact face on a tank in service tends to be bright metal
• Apply mud and dust sparingly, since in 1:72 scale they quickly hide the relief you are buying the set for

Who the set is for

It suits modelers who build the T-34 in 1:72 scale and want the right track pattern for a particular machine, or who are not satisfied with the tracks from the box. Given the size of the parts it is an accessory for more experienced builders.

The set contains tracks only. The kit of the tank, paints and glue are not included in the package.
