1:72 UB-16 rocket launchers for MiG-21

Eduard 1:72 UB-16 rocket pods for the MiG-21 (resin accessory)

A resin detail accessory in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It is not an aircraft model but a set of UB-16 unguided rocket pods, which were carried under the wing of the MiG-21 fighter. The castings capture the shape of the bodies and the mouths of the tubes more faithfully than injection-molded plastic allows, and they fill out the armament under the external stations.

The real subject

The UB-16 is a Soviet rocket pod for 57 mm unguided rockets, common armament of Eastern Bloc fighters and ground-attack aircraft for strikes against ground targets. The MiG-21 was an exceptionally widespread supersonic fighter, which carried such pods in its ground-attack versions.

Building and painting tips

Wash the mold release residue off the resin parts and carefully cut off the casting blocks. Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and protect your airways while sanding. The pods are usually hung on pylons under the wing. The mouths of the tubes can be picked out with a dark shade and a fine wash.

Who the accessory is for

• Modelers building ground-attack versions of the MiG-21 in 1:72 scale
• Those who want faithful external stores instead of the plastic parts
• More advanced modelers who work with resin
• Anyone who wants to complete the ground-attack armament of a model

This is a detail set, not a model. Paints, glue and the kit itself are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
