1:72 US 500 lb bomb is external ordnance for models of the attack Apache and the early Mustangs, as the name states.
Responsibility details are not available.
The item extends the ordnance of a finished model and does not itself stand in for the aircraft. According to the name it is intended for the A-36 Apache and P-51 B/C machines, built in 1:72 scale.
The A-36 Apache was the attack version of the Mustang with dive brakes in the wing, which allowed a precise diving attack. In the Mediterranean it flew against bridges, columns and airfields, and a bomb of the medium weight class was its typical load. The early Mustangs with the Merlin engine carried it too, especially on tasks against ground targets, before the center of gravity of their employment shifted to long-range escort.
The bodies look best when they are sprayed separately and glued to the model only after the lower surfaces have dried. A matte surface will take a light burnishing with dry pigment, which suggests the metal beneath the paint. Stencils and marking stripes are drawn by hand only when the builder is sure of his hand; in this scale a clean surface tends to be more convincing than an overloaded one. It is also useful to check whether the model has a mounting prepared under the wing at all; older molds sometimes leave it out and the hole then has to be drilled by hand. Once it is hung, it pays to look the model over from behind against the light, so that both bodies hang at the same height.
Neither the aircraft nor glue for it is supplied with the ordnance.
