The Commando is an American 4x4 wheeled armored vehicle with a hull shaped like a boat, thanks to which the vehicle is amphibious and crosses water obstacles under its own power. It was designed as a universal carrier on which the turret or the superstructure changes according to the task, from machine gun and cannon turrets to versions for carrying troops, for communications and for police service. That is precisely why the type sold to a large number of countries and was used both by armies and by internal and security forces. The variant with the 20 mm cannon represents the middle level of armament between the machine gun versions and the variants with the 90 mm gun. An automatic cannon of this caliber suits lightly armored targets and fire support, while staying light enough not to overload a small wheeled vehicle.
Assemble the boat-shaped hull carefully, because its long sloping surfaces reveal every seam. Finish the chassis and the lower hull before you fit the wheels. Build and paint the turret separately and fit it to the finished vehicle. On export machines the color schemes differ a great deal by operator, so it pays to decide in advance which form you want to build. Keep the patina in scale; on a small model a fine wash into the engraved lines, edge highlights and dust on the wheels and the lower hull are enough.
