An injection-molded plastic kit of the patrol flying boat Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina in the finish for the US Navy. The model in 1:72 scale is supplied as an unassembled and unpainted set of plastic parts; glue, paints and basic modeling tools are needed to finish it.
The PBY Catalina was among the most widespread and longest-serving machines of its kind in the Second World War. The PBY-5A version was amphibious: besides a boat hull it had retractable wheeled landing gear, so it could operate from water and from land alike. This high-wing monoplane with two Pratt & Whitney radial engines and the characteristic observation blisters in the rear served for maritime patrols, anti-submarine warfare, long-range reconnaissance and search and rescue operations over the oceans.
For the joints between plastic parts use thin modeling cement, which wicks into the seams. On the large surfaces of the wing and the fuselage it pays to apply a base coat (primer) before painting and to spray with an airbrush, so that the finish is even. Mask the canopy glazing and the side blisters and varnish them at the very end. Check the large wing mounted on its pylon for symmetry before the glue sets.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
