The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) in 1:800 scale is a plastic kit of a Nimitz class nuclear carrier from the Academy brand.

The kit captures a nuclear aircraft carrier of the US Navy in a reduced display case scale. Choosing 1:800 means a shorter build and smaller demands on space, so the model suits even places where the usual naval scale would be unbearably large.
Carl Vinson belongs to the Nimitz class, that is to the family of nuclear aircraft carriers that have formed the backbone of American strike groups since the 1970s. Power from two reactors gives them practically unlimited range, and the angled flight deck with catapults allows aircraft to take off and land at the same time. The ship entered service in 1982 and has been through a number of overseas deployments.
Prepare the flight deck as a separate assembly and give time to seating it level, because it is what carries the whole impression of the model. The deck markings look better sprayed through a mask than painted by hand. Assemble the island with its radars last and add the thin aerials according to your own skill. The part below the waterline can be hidden in a base with a water surface. Play out the shades on the deck into irregular patches; a uniform gray looks flat.
The set comes as an unassembled model without a finish; obtain glue and paints separately.
