About product

Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza 1:12, Italeri

An injection-molded plastic kit of the historic Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza racing car in the large 1:12 scale from Italeri. The new tooling offers a richly worked engine, working steering of the front wheels, realistic suspension, rubber tires, chromed parts, photo-etched metal fittings, metal screws for assembly, copper wiring and fine mesh for faithful detail. The large scale stands out as an impressive piece for a collection.

The real subject

The Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 is one of the most famous sports and racing cars of the 1930s. The 8C designation refers to the supercharged inline eight-cylinder engine of roughly 2.3 liters, which gave the car exceptional performance for its day. The two-seat Grand Prix version earned the Monza epithet after its victories on the circuit at Monza. The car is bound up with a legend of period motorsport, the Italian driver Tazio Nuvolari, and with the era of elegant, hand-built racers with a supercharger.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with thin liquid cement for plastic, and the photo-etched and metal parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Lay a primer under the body and spray it with an airbrush in thin coats; finish the classic Italian racing red with a gloss clear coat. Let the supercharged engine, the copper wiring and the chromed parts stand out with a fine wash and polishing. Fit the wires and the mesh carefully, and put the rubber tires on the detailed wheels only at the end.
