An injection-molded plastic kit of the American aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6) in 1:1200 scale from the German manufacturer Revell. The set comes in the Model Set edition: besides the parts sprues, the decals and the manufacturer's instructions, it also adds basic paints, a brush and cement for polystyrene. Mind the scale: 1:1200 is a small collector's scale, so the finished model is markedly smaller than aircraft carriers in 1:350 or 1:700.
USS Enterprise, with the hull number CV-6, was an aircraft carrier that went through almost the whole war in the Pacific. She was nicknamed the Big E and ranks among the most decorated ships in American history. She took part in the decisive Battle of Midway and in the long fighting for Guadalcanal, was heavily damaged several times and always returned to service. Do not confuse her with the later nuclear Enterprise designated CVN-65, which is an entirely different and much larger ship.
In 1:1200 scale the parts are very small, so paint them while they are still on the sprue and cut them free only just before gluing. Set the flight deck apart from the gray superstructure with a warmer dark shade, otherwise the model will blend into a single color. The fine detail comes out after a light wash in the recesses and drybrushing on the edges. Sink the finished hull into a base representing the water surface; on a model this small, putty or plaster painted blue with lightly drawn-up ripples is enough.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The basic paints, a brush and glue are part of the Model Set package, other accessories are not.
