An injection-molded plastic kit of the Bell AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter in 1:32 scale from the Ukrainian company ICM. It is the model itself, not an add-on set. The early production designation refers to the early production form of the machine, which differs from the later batches in the details of the equipment and the armament.
The AH-1G Cobra was the first series-produced helicopter designed from the outset as an attack machine. It grew out of the technical basis of the UH-1 helicopter — it took over its powerplant and two-blade main rotor — but it was given a completely new, very narrow fuselage with the crew seated in tandem. The pilot sat at the rear and higher, the gunner at the front and lower. The slim cross section of the fuselage reduced the frontal area of the machine. The Cobra introduced the layout that attack helicopters still use today and became the starting point for the whole AH-1 line.
A model in 1:32 scale is large and reveals every unevenness, so it pays to spend time sanding and filling the parting seams of the fuselage. Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the glazing up — once it is cemented there is no access to it. Mask the glazing, whether with tape or with a ready-made mask; with such a large canopy area it shows clearly in the result. Apply a base coat (primer) before spraying, which unifies the surface and reveals any remaining flaws. Put the decals on a gloss varnish and seal them with a matte one, so that the edges of the carrier film do not show. Cement the main rotor and the tail rotor right at the very end, as they break off easily.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
