The Elefant is among the most massive armored vehicles of the war, and its angular superstructure with the long gun makes a striking model for collectors of German vehicles.
The Elefant was a heavy tank destroyer with a large-caliber anti-tank gun set in a fixed armored superstructure. It came about by rebuilding and modernizing the earlier Ferdinand, and the changes included adding a machine gun for defense against infantry and a commander's cupola. Only a small number were built and they were used above all on the Eastern Front and in Italy. Thanks to its massive armor and effective gun it was a feared opponent.
Assemble and paint the running gear and the tracks before you close up the hull. Glue the parts with thin plastic cement. Use an airbrush and a base color for painting; the large surfaces of the superstructure are ideal for masked German camouflage patterns and for practicing washes and pigments. Mud and dust effects emphasize the weight of the machine.
