About product

88 mm Kw.K. 43 L/71 barrel for the Panther II 1:35 – a turned set from Aber

This turned metal barrel from the Polish maker Aber in 1:35 scale shows the German 88 mm Kw.K. 43 gun with a barrel 71 calibers long, in the form the Panther II tank project assumed. The metal part has no seam from the mold parting line, it keeps an exact circular cross section and the muzzle is drilled out, so it replaces the plastic barrel without laborious filling. The set is an accessory to the kit and does not hold the model of the vehicle.

The real subject

The Panther II was a German project that followed on from the production Panther medium tank. The aim was to share components with the Tiger B heavy tank and to thicken the armor, and heavier armament in the shape of the 88 mm Kw.K. 43 gun with a barrel 71 calibers long was considered as well. The project was never completed and only one unfinished chassis survives, so a model of this type always belongs in the category of project and so-called paper vehicles.

Building and painting tips

The turned barrel is fitted in place of the plastic part, which usually has to be cut off, and the hole in the mantlet or shield carefully opened out with a round file. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy, and on heavier parts it is worth reinforcing the joint. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and apply a primer, otherwise the paint holds badly. We recommend blackening the muzzle and knocking back the inside to a matte finish; the outer surface takes light drybrushing with a metallic pigment and some wear at the muzzle.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Panther II project tank in 1:35 scale
  • Anyone interested in unfinished German projects and paper vehicles
  • Anyone who wants a barrel with no seam from the mold and with a drilled muzzle
  • Advanced modelers working with metal accessories

This is a detail set, not a model of the vehicle. The base kit, glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a turned metal barrel, that is a detail accessory. The base kit of the vehicle has to be obtained separately.

It was a German project that was never completed. Only an unfinished chassis survives, so the model belongs among project, so-called paper vehicles.

The 88 mm Kw.K. 43 gun had a barrel 71 calibers long, and the Tiger B heavy tank carried the same weapon.

It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy. Before painting, the metal has to be degreased and sprayed with a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
