Photo-etched metal makes it possible to keep the real thickness of the material and the see-through structure of the mesh, which cannot be achieved with injection-molded plastic. The T-55 was a Soviet medium tank of the postwar generation, derived from the design of the T-54, and it became one of the most widely used tanks in the world. The covers and grilles over the engine and transmission compartment, which protect the cooling system of the diesel engine, are a characteristic feature of its hull. Tiran 5 is the designation for captured T-55s modified by the Israeli army, which kept the basic engine deck layout. That area is clearly visible on a finished model, which is exactly why a photo-etched replacement pays off most here.
Cut or sand the plastic grilles out of the kit carefully, level the surface and cut the photo-etched parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades so that they are sharp and straight. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) after degreasing the parts. Apply a primer to the metal before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold well. The recesses of the grilles come out nicely after a dark wash and light drybrushing.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is a detail accessory for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
