The American M50A1 Ontos light tank destroyer, USMC in 1:35 scale — a plastic kit of the vehicle with six recoilless rifles.
Responsibility details are not available.
This plastic kit in 1:35 scale captures the unconventional American M50A1 Ontos light tank destroyer in Marine Corps fit. It faithfully reproduces the characteristic six 106 mm recoilless rifles on a traversing mount and adds etched parts, two figures and one-piece tracks. The model therefore catches the unusual look of this small but unusually heavily armed vehicle.
The Ontos, a name that means roughly a thing in Greek, was a light tracked tank destroyer originally intended for airborne units. It carried six 106 mm recoilless rifles, supplemented by spotting rifles and a light machine gun for defense against infantry. It became best known with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where its salvo fire could effectively destroy field fortifications and groups of the enemy. It stayed in service until the end of the 1960s.
With this vehicle it pays to assemble and paint the running gear and the underside before you close the hull up. The number of small parts and etched elements calls for careful cleaning up and gluing with cyanoacrylate. Dry-fit the assembly of the six rifles in advance so the result looks symmetrical. Apply the base olive finish with an airbrush over primer and washes in the recesses will add depth. Suggest the dust and mud of the Vietnam deployment with pigments, and paint chipping will bring the edges and stressed spots to life.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
