A plastic kit of the American Beechcraft T-34B Mentor trainer in 1:48 scale. A piston-engined machine with a tandem cockpit for two.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Beechcraft T-34 Mentor is an American trainer derived from a civil machine of the same make. The instructor and the student sit one behind the other under long glazing that gives both a good view, and the aircraft has a retractable nosewheel landing gear. The T-34B version served with the US Navy for basic pilot training. Power comes from an air-cooled piston engine driving a propeller; only the later T-34C version received a turboprop powerplant.
From the dimensions of the real aircraft the finished model works out at a span of around 21 cm and a length of roughly 16 cm. Even on a small aircraft, 1:48 scale leaves enough room for a well-worked cockpit, which pays off on a type with glazing this large.
The cockpit and its canopy are what call for most of the work. Finish the inside before you close the fuselage up, because the long glazing gives a view from the instrument panel all the way past the second seat. Mask the canopy frames before spraying, not after the paint has dried. Glue the thin landing gear legs on last and let them cure properly so that the model does not settle. Wash and degrease the parts before painting and lay the paint on in several thin coats.
Paints, glue and filler are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
