An injection-molded plastic model of the German floatplane fighter biplane Heinkel He 51B-2 in 1:72 scale from ICM. The B-2 version is the seaplane conversion mounted on a pair of floats instead of the usual wheeled landing gear.
The Heinkel He 51 was one of the first fighter biplanes of the Luftwaffe as it was rebuilt in the 1930s. The B-2 floatplane version served with coastal and ship-based units protecting harbors and vessels. Although it was a biplane of fixed layout that faster monoplanes soon made obsolete, many He 51s remained in training and auxiliary roles. The floats gave the aircraft the ability to operate from water.
On a biplane, pay attention to the exact seating of the upper wing, the struts and the bracing wires; it works well to add them once the fuselage and the lower wing have dried. The floats and their mounts need to be aligned symmetrically. Glue the plastic parts with thin modeling cement for plastic. Apply a primer before painting and distinguish the metal and the fabric areas by shade as well as by sheen. A gloss coat under the decals will keep the edges from lifting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
