An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Short Sunderland Mk.III flying boat in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Italeri. It is a large model with a richly broken-up surface, separate clear parts for the cockpit and the turrets and photo-etched accessories. Given the size of the real aircraft, the finished model is among the largest in this scale and makes a striking centerpiece for a display case.
The Sunderland was one of the best known seaplanes of the Second World War. It entered service in the late 1930s with the squadrons of RAF Coastal Command and was used for long-range maritime reconnaissance, convoy escort and submarine hunting. The Mk.III variant from late 1941 became the most widespread and definitive version, with a revised hull bottom; thanks to its strong defensive armament the crews earned it the nickname The Flying Porcupine.
Glue the large fuselage in stages and let the joints dry properly, ideally with liquid cement for plastic. Mask the glazing and paint with an airbrush; the panel lines will stand out once a base primer is on. On a model of this size it pays to reinforce the main joints and to keep checking that the hull and the wings stay symmetrical.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
