The set faithfully reproduces the American M8A1 perforated steel landing mats, which were used to firm up forward airfields and hardstands. The individual segments lock into one another, so you can build up a surface of practically any size and match it to the size of your scene.
The mats make an ideal base for dioramas as well as a standalone display surface under a finished aircraft, helicopter or vehicle model in 1:72 scale. The faithful structure of the perforations and joints gives a scene the realistic look of a forward landing strip.
Once molded, the parts are best cleaned up, assembled and painted in the shade of worn steel wanted, and may be finished with deposits of mud and dust for authentic weathering.
