Behind the name ENGLISH FIELD BROWN hides a brown with a fine green undertone, that is the position most modelers associate with British equipment and gear. It is neither chocolate nor rust, but rather the color of a waterlogged field at the end of autumn. It suits the trucks and armored vehicles of island units, leather straps, pouches and the wooden parts of equipment.
Work with a brush is rewarding with this tone. The paint flows out for a fairly long time, so there is time to even a stroke out, and at the same time it covers well enough for two coats to be enough even on light plastic. For accentuating the edges it is suitable to mix in a drop of sand, for a shadow a drop of dark gray instead, because black would deaden the tone needlessly.
When it is to meet an olive on one model, it is better not to divide the area sharply. A blurred transition corresponds to the way camouflage was applied in the field, and it moreover forgives small inaccuracies of the hand. A sharp edge is suitable only where a stencil was used.
Leather is a chapter of its own. Straps, holsters and slings get a convincing look when a thin glossy coat is drawn over the base only on the bends, where the material rubs. The rest stays matte and the difference in gloss makes half the impression without anything having to be painted in.
