0.9 mm, a torx drive, a raised head. The step for the heftiest uncovered joints of faired machines.
Responsibility details are not available.
The second to last size that can be had on its own in this line aims at the joints that are demonstratively hefty on the real subject too. On a modern faired machine those are the mounts of the engine into the frame, the lower seat of the shock absorber and the clamping of the footpeg brackets. A 1:9 build turns it into a head 8.1 mm wide, a sixth-scale one 5.4 mm.
The greater the tightening torque, the greater the risk of the drive being rounded off. That is exactly why designers abandoned the older shapes on load-bearing joints and moved to the six-lobe star, which carries the force over a larger area. A model that respects this development comes across as technically well informed, and that is a difference a knowledgeable viewer notices before perfect paint.
Unlike the finer steps, this one is used in only a few places, but on the most exposed ones. A wrongly chosen diameter will therefore not be lost in a crowd here but will stay permanently in view. We recommend seating the element dry first and judging it next to the neighboring part, not on its own.
Above this step there are three coarser sizes still, so if you are building a whole machine you have room to grade the joints according to their real function all the way to the heftiest assemblies of the chassis.
Load-bearing joints on the real subject tend to be galvanized or blackened, that is darker than the painted surface around them. A slight darkening of the head will therefore serve the result better than an attempt at a metallic shine, which on a component of this size will show mainly as a bright point anyway.
