The middle of the line and its advantage

0.8 mm lies exactly between the fine three and the strongest steps, which makes it a universal choice for a builder who is not sure. The recess is already comfortably legible, and yet the head does not look oversized even on small surfaces. It tends to be the size a builder uses up fastest, even when he originally bought the range covering the whole upper half of the family.

Shadow instead of paint

A hexagonal recess makes its own shadow and it is a shame to override it. The best results come from letting the light work: the head stays lighter than its surroundings and the recess reads by itself as a dark point. If you do reach for an accentuation after all, dose it drop by drop and let the material dry between the individual attempts. An overdone accentuation creates a dark ring around the head which has no counterpart on a real machine and gives the intervention away at first glance.

Watch the edges of the liquid

Thin shades tend to leave an outline once dry, where the liquid stopped. On a smooth surface that outline shows far more than on a rough one, and since nothing is documented about the smoothness of these goods, count on the less favorable variant. The answer is to work with a smaller amount of liquid and to spread the edge out with a clean damp brush before it hardens.

A test surface pays off

Setting about the accentuation for the first time straight on a finished machine is a needless risk. Attach two or three pieces to an offcut of plastic, go through the whole procedure from start to finish and only then touch the model. In doing so you will also find out how long the layer takes to dry and whether it leaves behind a gloss you were not counting on.
