About product

What they are good for

A hex bolt head is a detail that catches the eye on a model at once. On real machinery it holds armor plates, flanges, tank lids and the feet of girders, and a regular row of heads gives the surface scale and rhythm. An injection-molded kit tends to be stingy in this respect: it carries the heads only as a shallow suggestion that is lost under the first layer of paint. Separate parts solve that shortcoming, because you place them exactly where you want them and the surface gains depth thanks to them.

What the set offers

Hex bolt heads 1.4 mm in size according to the name of the item. It is one of the larger sizes, so it suits heavy machinery with hefty joints. The conversion to the subject is straightforward: multiply the dimension in millimeters by the figure of the scale. A 1.4 mm head thus corresponds in 1:35 scale to roughly fifty millimeters on the real machine and in 1:24 scale to just under thirty-five.

  • Hex bolt heads 1.4 mm in size
  • A universal accessory with no tie to one kit
  • Suitable for armor plates, flanges and tank lids
  • The dimension fits the coarser joints of heavy machinery

Building and painting tips

Parts of this size are worked with using fine-tipped tweezers; more surely still you will lift them with the moistened tip of a toothpick, which holds the part and releases it again. Mark the spacing out in advance with a pencil or a light scribe, so that the row keeps its line. Meter a drop of cyanoacrylate glue onto the surface of the model, not onto the part, and apply it with a wire or the tip of a blade. Painting is done after gluing, together with the whole part: a dark wash around the foot of the head separates it from the surface, and a lighter shade over the high points draws out the edges of the hex.

Who it is for

For modelers who are finishing the surface of military machinery, construction machines or dioramas and want genuinely three-dimensional joints instead of shallow suggestions. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Models of machinery where you want to bring out bolted joints: armor plates, flanges, tank lids or frames. They are not tied to one kit; you choose by size and scale.

Multiply the dimension by the figure of the scale. In 1:35 scale it works out at roughly fifty millimeters on the subject, in 1:24 scale at just under thirty-five. From that you will know whether the head matches the joint you want to imitate.

Cyanoacrylate glue works well. Meter a drop onto the surface of the model with a wire or the tip of a blade, carry the part with tweezers or the moistened tip of a toothpick and seat it in the glue.

The simplest way is to glue them on before painting and spray them together with the part. A dark wash around the foot of the head then separates the shape from the surface.
