About product

Brass Profile 0.5 mm — AK interactive (5 Pieces, 20 cm Each)

A modeling material made of brass — not a kit, but raw stock for your own details. The package contains 5 pieces, 20 cm long, with an outer diameter of 0.5 mm. Half a millimeter is probably the most universal size in the whole range: fine enough for detail work, yet strong enough to carry a load and serve as a structural element or pin. That is exactly where brass shows its strength — it is rigid and durable, so a joint reinforced with a brass pin holds far better than a glued plastic-only joint, which loosens or sags over time. Brass can also be soldered.

Use

  • Gun barrels of larger-caliber machine guns and turret weapons, in place of plastic parts
  • Exhausts, exhaust manifolds and tips on vehicles and engines
  • Tubing runs, piping and lines on dioramas and equipment
  • Probes, masts, antennas and railings, where plastic looks too soft
  • Pins for a strong joint between parts — wings, landing gear, arms, heavy superstructures

Working and Painting

To shorten the profile, use a sharp blade and rotate it as you cut, or a fine saw. Never cut by squeezing it in wire cutters — the end would get crushed and deformed. After cutting, always clean up the end with a fine drill bit or a needle; a sloppy, bent or dented end is immediately visible on a finished model and is one of the most common mistakes. If you want to paint the profile, first degrease it and prime it — otherwise paint will not grip smooth brass and will flake off during handling. Or leave the brass bare; as a metal part it looks entirely natural on its own. To fix it in place: drill a hole and glue the profile in with cyanoacrylate (super glue).

Who the Material Is For

For modelers who want to replace coarse plastic tubes and barrels with real metal, and for anyone who needs to properly reinforce a fragile joint. The versatility of 0.5 mm makes it a size worth always keeping on hand.

A modeling material, not a kit. The cut ends of the profile are sharp — keep out of the reach of children. Protect your eyes when cutting, and ventilate when soldering.

FAQ

The manufacturer states only the outer diameter and length — it says nothing about an inner diameter or wall thickness. The range name references tubes, but the manufacturer's own text also uses the term profile, so we cannot claim it is hollow. If you are counting on a through-hole (for example, a drilled-out barrel muzzle), check one piece from the package before you start building.

Because brass is rigid and durable. A glued plastic joint — say, on a heavy wing or a long arm — loosens or sags over time. Drill a hole into both parts and insert a brass pin, and the joint gets a metal reinforcement that holds. Brass also withstands soldering, so you can even build an entire internal frame from it.

Do not use wire cutters at all. Cut with a sharp blade while rotating the profile, or use a fine saw. Then clean up the end with a small drill bit or a needle so it is straight and clean. It is a small detail, but it decides the final impression.

Bare brass is smooth, and paint will not hold on it. First degrease the profile, then apply a primer, and only then the paint. Alternatively, do not paint the brass at all — in the role of a metal part it looks convincing on its own.
