Corundum Abrasive Pen 400 grit is a U-STAR corundum abrasive pen with a 400 grit — the medium step, reached for above all when sanding dried putty in joints and in repaired places.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pen-format sanding tool with a corundum abrasive and a 400 grit according to the name of the product. Within the range it is the medium step: it no longer leaves deep marks the way the cleanup grits do, but it still takes off enough for a layer of putty to be shaped with it.
Once it has dried, a filled joint looks like a small hump that has to be leveled exactly flush with the surrounding plastic — no more and no less. When it is sanded with too coarse an abrasive, the putty crumbles out and a shallow hollow forms around the joint that only the first coat of paint reveals. A 400 grit in a pen format is a rewarding combination for this work: you aim the removal at the putty alone and leave the surrounding surface untouched. It is just as good for refining repairs where you have sanded the plastic through and had to build it back up.
Sand dry with short passes and wipe the area between them, so that you can see the real state of it. Putty and plastic sand away at different rates, so check the transition between them by feel — a finger finds an irregularity sooner than the eye. Once the joint is level, move on to a higher grit and polish the area, otherwise the fine grooves will show through under a glossy paint. It also helps to spray a thin coat of primer onto the repaired place: it unifies the color of the putty with the plastic and any irregularity shows up at once.
