Crackle Paint splits into a net of fissures as it dries, producing the cracked mud, broken clay or parched earth that would otherwise have to be sculpted. The 60 ml bottles cover cracked desert mud, dry wasteland and a rust-red earth. It is used on bases, dioramas and running gear, wherever a layer of dried deposit needs to sit on the surface.
The cracks form as the layer moves while drying, so coat thickness controls their size: a thin application gives a dense fine pattern, a heavier one breaks into large plates. Apply it with a spatula or an old brush and then leave it alone, because touching the surface while it sets disrupts the pattern. A crackle surface cannot be overpainted smoothly, so finish it with dust from pigments and complete the scene using diorama accessories.
