A dark brown shade from the Orange Line range by Hataka, listed under the designation Dark Brown 6K. The suffix after the name sets the shade apart from the other brown tones in the range; what exactly it means is not stated here, so the text quotes it the way the name of the item carries it.
Brown tones are among the most used colors on the bench. They work as part of camouflage schemes, on wooden parts, on the leather equipment of crews, on rails and tracks and wherever the surface is meant to look dirtied or dusty. A dark brown also serves well as a base under rust shades or as a component of a wash, because the shadow that comes out of it is warmer and more natural than one from pure black. It mixes easily: adding ocher and sand tones shifts it toward a faded shade, while a drop of dark gray darkens it without it losing its warmth.
Shake the bottle well before work, as dark pigments settle at the bottom fastest. The thinner made for this range and the thinning ratio are given by the manufacturer on the packaging; reach for it when cleaning tools as well. Apply in thin coats and let them set between passes, as a single heavy coat floods the fine surface detail. Wash and degrease the surface of the parts beforehand. With dark shades it pays to test the coverage on a spare piece of plastic, because a dark color is harder to put right on a model than a light one.
Thinner, brushes and airbrushes are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
