A three-blade ship propeller of 27 mm diameter, made by die casting metal. An accessory for wooden ship models.
Responsibility details are not available.
A three-blade ship propeller is a ready-made part for models of ships with mechanical propulsion. The diameter of 27 mm gives the size of the circle that the blades of the propeller describe. A propeller is among the parts on which finished work shows the most, because on a model it is usually left uncovered under the stern and the eye runs over it as the first detail below the waterline. It is an accessory for wooden ship models, that is, for builds where the builder puts the fit together from individual parts.
According to the name, the part is made by die casting metal. It is a ready-made metal part which is fitted to a model with no further shaping. Against a part made of plastic it has the advantage of stiffness in the thin blades, which are not so easily bent when a finished model is handled.
A metal part cannot be glued with cement for polystyrene, which has no effect on it. Use super glue or a two-part adhesive and degrease the surfaces to be joined before putting them together. Remove the excess material and the traces of manufacture with a sharp blade and a fine file, but keep the original curve of the blades as you do so. Before painting, wash the part in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let it dry. Paint holds better on metal over a base layer meant for metal surfaces. Seat the shaft on the axis of the hull and, before the glue dries, check that the propeller does not rub against the rudder or the stern.
The part given is supplied. The ship model, the shaft, glue and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
