About product

The real subject

The Dornier Do 335 was a German twin-engine fighter with an unusual arrangement of its power. One engine sat in the nose and drove a tractor propeller, the other was placed behind the cockpit and turned a pusher propeller behind the tail through an extended shaft. Both therefore worked on the axis of the fuselage, which saved the aircraft the drag of engine nacelles. The tail surfaces were arranged in a cross, so that the lower fin protected the rear propeller, and the machine stood on a nosewheel undercarriage. The name Pfeil became established for it.

What photo-etch brings to a model

Photo-etch is a thin metal sheet with the parts etched into it. It comes into its own where a part should look thin and where plastic is necessarily thicker than the real subject would call for: instrument panels, seat harnesses, handles, grilles and small fittings. Which parts of the model the set covers and which Do 335 kit in 1:48 it is tuned to are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Working with photo-etch

Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, as scissors twist the thin sheet. Make the bends in an etch bender or between two blades, always along the marked groove. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue in a small amount, and more experienced builders reach for a soldering iron. Before painting, degrease the metal and cover it with a primer for metal, or the coat will crack and peel. Put the small parts into a dish or onto a sticky surface once they are separated: one movement of a sleeve and you are looking for them on the floor.

Terms of supply

Paints, primer, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
