1:24 Toyota Levin AE101 – Upgrade Parts (Studio27) is an additional parts set for the Toyota Corolla Levin AE101 kits from Hasegawa. It is not a kit — you have to own the basic model.

This is not a kit and not a finished model. It is a set of additional parts from Studio27 that you build into a Toyota Corolla Levin AE101 model from Hasegawa — you therefore have to own the basic kit or obtain it separately. The point of such a set is simple: plastic cannot do a thin edge or a real mesh. A molded detail is always a little too thick and a grille tends to be only a suggested engraving, a solid pancake. Parts made of thin metal have sharp edges and real openings — and that shows on a finished model.
Levin is the sporting version of the Corolla, and the AE101 is the generation from the first half of the 1990s. Beware of mixing them up: the legend of drifting and of the series Initial D is the older AE86 — the AE101 is a newer and different car, with front-wheel drive. It has a strong history of its own, though: the sporting version was powered by the 4A-GE engine with a twenty-valve head and the car was homologated for Group A. At the beginning of the 1990s it appeared in Japanese touring car racing in the colors of well-known teams — and cars like that are what Hasegawa offers in its boxes.
Photo-etched parts are bent (an etch bender is almost a necessity) and glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because classic cement for plastic does not hold on metal. For a part to seat properly, the original plastic detail often has to be sanded away — and that is irreversible: think it through in advance and work in small steps. It calls for tweezers, a magnifier and calm, so we recommend the set to more experienced modelers. Seat and paint the interior parts before you close the body up; photo-etched grilles look best with a dark surface beneath them.
This is neither a kit nor a finished model. The package holds only additional parts for the Toyota Corolla Levin AE101 model from Hasegawa; the basic kit, the glue, the paints and the tools are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
