A foliage mat from the German maker HEKI from the mikroflor line of a size of twenty-eight by fourteen centimeters. Mikroflor is the finest grade of foliage in the brand's range: the application of foliage flakes has a grain so small that on a model it is not read as individual particles but as a continuous area of leaves. That is precisely what decides in small scales, where coarser material comes across as a piece of foam instead of a crown. The mat can be stretched and shaped.

How to work with the mat

Tear a piece off and stretch it carefully until irregular gaps come about in it. Lay the opened out piece on the armature and fix it with drops of cyanoacrylate or white glue. With a fine material it proves useful to dose the glue very sparingly, because a drop that soaks through creates a glossy spot on a small grain at once. Let the tree dry hanging or stuck in, so that the crown is not flattened against a surface.

The light shade also suits the boundary between a garden and a wood, where it is meant to show that somebody looks after the greenery by the house. This is a modeling material, not a toy.
