Two finished model trees from the German maker HEKI, fourteen centimeters tall. A pear differs in shape from an apple tree: it grows taller, the crown is narrower and more upright, and an old tree tends to be more conspicuous in the landscape than a spreading apple. At fourteen centimeters these are mature pieces of the kind that stood in yards and gardens by rural buildings, where the previous generation planted them.
The trees are pushed into a pre-drilled hole or glued by the foot of the trunk. With mature pieces make the hole deeper and fix the trunk with a drop of glue. In an old orchard leave the grass between the trees taller and unmown. Spread the flattened crown carefully with your fingers after unpacking and leave it upright rather than spreading, as that is exactly how a pear is recognized. Add grass under the trees so that the transition from the ground is not abrupt.
For builders of rural layouts and dioramas and for modelers fine-tuning gardens and the surroundings of buildings. The pair can be split and each tree used elsewhere, so that the same species repeats within the scene. This is modeling material, not a toy. The manufacturer marks its scenery products as unsuitable for children under fifteen.
