1:35 ATO(ANTI-TERRORISTIC OPERATION), EAST UKRAINE 2014

What the set is for

The sheet brings markings for equipment in 1:35 scale from the fighting in eastern Ukraine in 2014, that is from the Anti-Terrorist Operation, conducted under the abbreviation ATO. It is exactly markings that set a model built as a general type apart from a model placed in a particular place and time. On equipment of these years the markings tend to be clearly visible: they are carried on the sides of the hull, on the turret and on the rear of the vehicles, and they were often applied hastily, in the field.

How to apply the decals

Decals hold best on a smooth gloss base, so first coat the place under the decal with a gloss varnish. Cut the individual motif out as closely as possible, soak it in lukewarm water and let it rest until the film begins to slide freely on the paper. Transfer it onto the model, settle it with water or with a decal softener and draw off the excess moisture. A decal softener will help the decal to settle into rivets and edges. Once dry, go over the surface with a matte or semi-matte varnish, so that the edge of the film disappears. The specific instructions are in the guide to the set.

Placing it in the scene

Markings work best when they do not stay as a freshly printed element on an otherwise dusty vehicle. After varnishing, therefore, lead the same weathering across the decal as across the surrounding surfaces: fine dust, a dark wash into the gaps and rubbing on the edges. Where a marking is to be damaged, it is enough to disturb it carefully with a sanding sponge once dry.

Who it is for

The set is for modelers who build present-day equipment in 1:35 scale and want to place it on a particular battlefield. Paints, varnishes and glue are not part of this set, unless stated otherwise.
