The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt was among the largest and heaviest single-engine fighters of its day. It was powered by an air-cooled Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine complemented by a turbocharger whose ducting ran through the fuselage all the way to its rear section. Thanks to that the aircraft had excellent performance at high altitude and at the same time could carry a considerable amount of armament. The version with the so-called razorback, that is, with the canopy blending into the rear fuselage, received the designation Thunderbolt Mk.I in British service and was used above all in Southeast Asia.
A large scale forgives fewer mistakes: seat the parts precisely, test the fit dry and glue in sections so that the structure does not twist. In 1:24 scale it pays to work the cockpit interior and the engine up carefully, because they are clearly visible once the build is finished. On large smooth surfaces a filler primer brings out every scratch, so sand through several grits. Apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats; metallic shades need a genuinely smooth base. Prepare a gloss clear coat under the decals.
