ACES II late ejection seats (a pair) — 1:32 (Mini Craft Collection)

This set is NOT an airplane model but a pair of detailed ACES II ejection seats in the late version, made by 3D printing in resin. The set is intended for the two-seat versions of the F-16 fighter (two pilots in tandem) and serves to replace the less detailed seats from the base kit. The F-16 model itself has to be owned separately.

The real subject

The ACES II is the standard American ejection seat used in many combat aircraft, among them the General Dynamics (Lockheed Martin) F-16 Fighting Falcon. The late version matches the newer production blocks. On the two-seat version the front and rear seats differ in small details.

Building and painting tips

Unlike color 3D decals, resin seats are assembled and painted in the conventional way. Wash the parts free of uncured print resin residue, cut off the print supports and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); sand with respiratory protection. Paint the seats (base coat, fabric and metal shades) and bring them out with a wash; improved harness belts add to the realism.
