An accessory set in 1:32 scale: the data link pod for the AGM-142 Popeye guided missile, for combat aircraft models.
Responsibility details are not available.
The AGM-142 Popeye is a large air-to-ground guided missile intended for attacking ground targets from a safe distance. It is guided by the picture from its seeker head, so the operator in the aircraft sees where the missile is heading and can refine the hit up to the last moment. The link between the aircraft and the missile is provided by the data link pod: it carries the antenna and the electronics and hangs on a pylon just like ordnance. Without it the missile can be carried, but it cannot be controlled in flight, which is why the two appear together in period photographs.
A model of the pod in 1:32 scale for building an aircraft with this armament. The name lists the types the equipment is tied to: McDonnell F-15 and F-4, F-16, Dassault Mirage 2000 and F-111. How many pieces the package contains and which mounts belong to it are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are not polystyrene and are bonded with cyanoacrylate. Cut surplus material and manufacturing marks away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder off carefully, so that the fine detail is not lost. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the primer will not hold. The pod is a slender body with smooth surfaces, so it pays to spray thin coats and to polish out any scratches before the primer goes on.
An accessory set is supplied. The aircraft kit, paints, glue and decals are not included, unless stated otherwise.
