A pair of resin figures of the crew of the Thunderchief seated in ejection seats, scale 1:32, an accessory to a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic F-105 was born as a single-seat carrier of a nuclear bomb, but the war in Southeast Asia gave it an altogether different role. The two-seat F version, originally designated as a trainer, proved an ideal basis for the most dangerous task of that time. From it came the G version, which crews nicknamed Wild Weasel: it flew ahead of the main formation, let an anti-aircraft battery lock onto it and then aimed a missile at its radar.
In front sat the pilot and behind him the electronic warfare officer, who in the units was simply called the Bear. He watched the warning receivers, worked out the direction to the transmitter and guided the missile. It is precisely this pair that makes a model of a two-seat Thunderchief a scene rather than merely an aircraft, and that is why the figures are best put into the cockpit during the build.
The package offers two seated figures, shaped to an ejection seat, with the buckles of the harness, the hoses and the folds of the flight suits drawn out. The castings are of resin, and small projections left by the pour gates are removed with a scalpel and the surface sanded down. Try the seating dry before you start gluing, because the space under the cockpit canopy tends to be tight. The set is made ready for a kit in 1:32.
