A figure set from the Ukrainian maker MARS Model focused on the Fallschirmjäger in dress for a hot theater. The castings are plastic, in 1:32 scale, and they come without paint. The scale matches models of vehicles and aircraft of the same size, so the set goes well with larger kits.
German paratroopers belonged to the elite formations and had an equipment system of their own that differed strikingly from the infantry of the Wehrmacht - from the helmet without the distinctive flared rim to the long jump smock. In North Africa, on Crete and later in Italy they received a lighter tropical version in sand and olive tones, often together with trousers with large pockets and tropical headgear. It is precisely this appearance that is rewarding for the modeling scene, because it stands out markedly from the gray-green European palette and comes to life in color in a scene with dusty terrain.
Tropical shades fade quickly in the sun, so it pays to lighten the base slightly and to keep the individual pieces of equipment different, as if they were of different ages. Spray washed and cleaned-up castings with a thin primer. Always test the joint on a sprue offcut first; super glue gives the greater certainty. At the end, add light dust to the boots and the lower part of the trousers with pigment or a very thin wash.
